Which is the best Bum Boat team in the Caribbean?

There is heightened excitement among the islands as the Southern Caribbean Circuit draws near.

Each island's pride is at stake. At each leg of the Circuit Bum Boats, Heritage Boats and Work Boats vie for bragging rights as the best of the Southern Caribbean.

Thousands of locals line the beaches in Carriacou and Grenada each year to see the colourful boats push off from the beach and speed off into the wind, sails full to make their villages proud.

The Spirit of Racing

The regatta is now just under a month away and excitement is building. As we celebrate our 25th Anniversary this year it is time to reflect on the history of the Angostura Tobago Sail Week.

The idea of staging a major regatta in the Southern Caribbean emerged in 1980 when five of Trinidad’s sailing enthusiasts put their heads together, no doubt over a couple of drinks. Rawle Barrow, Kevin Kenny, John and Sydney Knox and Michael Rostant put the idea to other regional yacht clubs, and Tobago was selected as the ideal venue.

A festival of the wind

There is a definite change blowing in the wind with the Regatta Promoters' launch of the Tobago Carnival Regatta to be held in Tobago from the 10th - 14th February 2009. This young, proactive group, now transforming what had previously been the called Angostura Tobago Sail Week, brings with it many changes. Regatta Promoters Ltd. are pulling out every stop to make next years Regatta as unique as any in the region and perhaps the world.
